Phong “Danny” Hoang, 24, was picked up in Calgary by Canada Border Services with help from city police in December after the two air force members, Kellen Johnson and Dwain Rouse, were arrested in Great Falls and claimed Hoang as the middle-man in their smuggling ring, said McDermott.

Hoang is wanted in the U.S. for conspiracy to export firearms, aiding and abetting arms exportation and using false statements in acquiring firearms.

An Immigration Refugee Board hearing on Dec. 22, 2005, to decide whether to detain Hoang heard he is allegedly involved with a well-known U.S. Asian gang called the Tiny Rascals.

He was detained until his admissibility hearing on Jan. 12 when, instead of deporting him back to the U.S., immigration adjudicator Paul Kyba released him.

So who’s this Paul Kyba fellow? And what are the circumstances of his releasing an alleged gun runner? It would be interesting to find out, which will happen tomorrow apparantly, when the ruling is released.

How does that work, anywyas? The wanted man gets released before the reasons? I hope someone is watching Mr. Kyba’s bank account.

Man burned after trying to smoke while on oxygen

A man intent on smoking in his hospital room – even though he was hooked up to oxygen – landed in the burn unit Friday afternoon.

The 63-year-old man, who was on the kidney ward at the University of Alberta Hospital, attempted to light a cigarette, which caused his breathing line to catch fire, which in turn engulfed the bed.

Dumb fuck. Apparantly damage to hospital is about $20K. I hope they make him pay for it.

She’s the one who got a $632 speeding ticket for not slowing down for a cop with flashing lights. From teh Calgary Herald:

“He handed me the ticket for $632 and I asked, ‘What did I do wrong?’ I was speechless, absolutely speechless,” she said.

“It’s a tough lesson to learn. I felt that a warning would have been more appropriate because I didn’t know about the law. No one I’ve talked to has ever heard of it,” said Montgomery, who also complained the fine was excessive.

Is there anyone out there who hasn’t heard about the new law, and the subsequent grace period (now ended, sad for Valerie)? I’ve slowed down twice already on the Deerfoot.

For the record, you must slow down to 60 KMH when passing emergency vehicles on a highway, but only on that lane next to the flashing lights. If they’re on the right hand shoulder, you get to keep your 130 in the left lane. Not that anyone we know goes 130.

And yeh, 600+ bucks seems a little steep, but one thing she said makes it perfectly appropriate in this case. “What’s an emergency vehicle, anyways?” she reportedly asked.

b) what parent allows their 16 year to be out and walking about in a highway at any time?
c) what is the native community doing to protect its youngsters?

No, the obsession de jour is to lower the speed limits on the trans-fucking-Canada highway where it runs through the reserve.

Sedo [the father] called on the government to reduce the speed limit along the stretch of the highway that runs through the reserve.

“It’s also, maybe, a possibility that we should have some signs on the side of the highway because it does cut through the community. We seem to have signs for livestock. How about signs for people possibly trying to make it home?” he said.

Yeh, maybe if the native community took better care of its young people. Say, better than it treats its livestock?

Okay now… back to school for the lot of you. There’s a reason editorials are unsigned, and this is an excellent example of why: you don’t want to look like an idiot all by yourself. I’m going to have to look up the editorial board and name the idiots one-by-one, since there is now collective stupidity involved.

In short, their thesis is that Darwinian evolution is just a theory, and so all other reasonable theories (like ID and – no really, don’t laugh – creationism) should begiven equal weight.

Yep, it’s just a theory. Like the Theory of Heliocentrism, proposed by Copernicus and supported by the observations of Galileo. Or the Theory of Plate Tectonics, proposed by Wegener. Or how about Cell Theory. But wait, you since don’t believe in theories, so you can’t blame cell theory (and the ensuant viral stupidity).

You see, fuckdolts, just calling something a “theory” is a semantic game. Theory in science does not mean the same thing as my theory of how you guys passed high school. Nope, a scientific theory is something special, and perhaps you ought to read up on it.

This would be a good place to start. I found it by searching for Calgary bloggers who might have a clue. I don’t know if this Teddy guy does or not, but the evidence supports the theory that he’s not a dimwit.

It’s absoutely amazing, in this day and age, to be so influenced by such unenlightened thought. To be exposed to it via an editorial in a major newspaper is just criminal.

Now, let’s be sure of what we’re saying here. Think of gang violence in Cowtown or Toronto or Montreal and what nationalities do you think of? Vietnamese, Jamaican or Sri Lankan, and Haitian. Certainly not “Canadian”.
That’s not racism, nor is it rhetoric. It is the facts. And the fact is, these fucks are animals. They deserve to be sent back from whence they came. Political correctness be damned.

And I’ll go one further: If they were born here, revoke their citizenship and send them back anyways. And send their parents too. Can’t parent your kids? Don’t know a gangsta from the Sopranos on the fuckin’ tube? Tough shit, you lose. Please gamble on another country.
This has got to be a nation that immigrants not only want to come to, but also want to become a part of. There are many stories of trials and tribulations, and of the overcoming of adversity. My parents were European immigrants after the war, and trust me when I say that I know how difficult things can be. Not everyone chooses to be a victim, or chooses to become disenfranchised.

Not fair to punish immigrants who don’t have a monopoly on violence? First off, I dispute that. But even so, I think that immigrants have a greater duty to fit in and become a part of our society in a functioning and meaningful way. I personally know Sri Lankans, Blacks, Vietnamese, Chineses, Indians, Sihks, and other nationalities who have done so, and who are proud and significant members of society.

To those who aren’t, I have no problem saying “kindly fuck off and go swim home”.

So you get an “email” from a “lawyer” from South Africa saying you “won” a lottery. You remember, the one you didn’t even enter. What do you do?

Bertuzzi – you suck, but the Canadian Olympic Committee gets to make the final decision, looks like. I bet they say you suck too. And although Crosby might not be ready just yet, arguably Phaneuf is.
And what about Spezza? From the CBC Sports site:

Crosby isn’t only young, highly-touted player forced to stay home. Neither Jason Spezza nor Eric Staal earned spots on the squad. Most pundits predicted at least one would be heading to Turin, Italy.

Staal leads the NHL with 24 goals and Spezza has been a catalyst for the high-scoring Ottawa Senators. Both, along with Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Bryan McCabe, will be the team’s alternates in case of injury.

I had been meaning to try out this blogging thing for a while now (no, seriously – everyone’s doing it) but I’m super busy, and didn’t think I had the time. Well, the holidays are upon us, and since things are slowing down a bit, I find myself with some downtime to nurture the inner geek.

A couple of recent events have prodded me (like a cattle prod) to do something to try to dissipate some of that incredulous rage I’m feeling about a thing or two.
Well, perhaps rage is a little harsh.

Like choices for the Olympic hockey team. But more on that later. For now, see if you enjoy the drivel I’m spouting.
